All we know so far about MOD Pizza and their Nottingham opening

There’s another new eatery coming to Nottingham – a mouth-watering made to order pizzeria all the way from the States.

In June we revealed that a brand new pizza restaurant is to open in the city centre in Long Row, where Shuh is currently based.

It may not be opening its doors until November but it is quickly gathering interest. So after a bit of digging – that may or may not have included eating a load of pizza – here is what we know about MOD Pizza so far.

MOD Pizza has been in business for eight years – It was the brainchild of married couple, Scott and Ally Svenson, from Seattle. They opened their first restaurant in 2008.

But they are not completely new to the food and drink industry – The Svensons are also the founders of Seattle Coffee Company, which was subsequently sold to Starbucks.

MOD – as in scooters, Ska music and tailor made suits? Not quite – but creators Scott and Ally were actually inspired by the UK Mod movement of the 60s and 70s.

MOD actually stands for Made on Demand – allowing customers to create pizzas and salads just to their liking.

The Nottingham branch will be the third to open in the UK – the only other two UK restaurants are located in Leeds and Brighton. But the brand is growing with restaurants planned to be opened in Newcastle as well as a flagship branch in London’s Leicester Square.

Don’t worry about having too many options – the creators of MOD have created a handy list of 10 of their favourite ready to go pizzas to make choosing yours that little less daunting. But if you want free reign, then go for it! There’s over 25 topping options as well as having your pick of base, sauce, cheese and finishing.

They nickname their staff “The MOD Squad” – Their “Mod Squad” are a family, which they believe makes families want to visit their restaurants.

The Pizzas only take 4 minutes to cook – Only 4 minutes? This is because of their 800 degree pizza ovens, so if you are in a hurry, this would be the perfect lunch option.

Let’s not forget drinks – MOD also has an extensive drinks menu including draught beers, lager’s, wine, floats and milkshakes. If that wasn’t enough, they also have fountain drinks which offer over 35 varieties of soft drinks.

Think take-out meets restaurant bar – MOD uses a fast food outlet style order system which can only add to the speed of proceedings.

And what about prices? We have all been to restaurants and food outlets where you are charged 30p here or 50p there for extra toppings. But at MOD there is just one fixed price of just under £8, regardless of the amount of toppings you choose. Result!

Last and by no means least, they’re not just your average business – MOD cares greatly about its staff, customers and the local community. Proceeds from pizza sales on the opening day will be donated to a local charity whilst they also commit to continuing to help and support local community charities throughout the year.
